In the same way, faith by itself,if it is not accompanied by action,is dead.James 2:17
The mission is not ours.
Jesus is the one who sends His people out to feed the hungry, mend what is broken, visit the forgotten, and carry each other's burdens. Every activity on this board is a church or ministry answering Him. J217 did not begin any of it, does not lead any of it, and takes no credit for any of it.
What this site does is small and practical. It makes that work visible so more people can join it. If J217 disappeared tomorrow, those churches and ministries would keep serving, because He is the one who called them to it and not us. The board simply helps the rest of us find our way to the work.
What a hosting organization affirms.
J217 lists activities hosted by churches and faith-based organizations that hold the historic Christian faith. An organization posting here affirms:
- One God, eternally existing as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
- Jesus Christ, fully God and fully man, crucified for sinners, bodily raised, and returning.
- The Bible as the inspired and authoritative Word of God, and the final rule for faith and life.
- Salvation by grace, through faith in Christ alone.
- Marriage as a covenant between one man and one woman, and God's design for sexuality within that covenant.
- Every human life as bearing God's image and worth protecting, from conception onward.
This is what a host affirms in order to be listed. It is not a test anyone is asked to pass in order to serve. Whoever wants to show up and help is welcome at these activities, and that is not going to change.
The work is there. The visibility is not.
Almost every church and ministry has something going on. A pantry that needs restocking, a widow's roof that needs patching, a back-to-school drive, a Saturday workday, a meal for a family in a hard season. Good work, done quietly, by people who are already tired.
And almost none of it is visible past the walls of whoever is doing it. It lives in a bulletin insert, a Sunday announcement, or a group text that never leaves the congregation. Meanwhile, somebody three miles away is looking for exactly that and has no idea it exists.
J217 is a shared activity board that puts those two facts in the same room, for the Triangle to start. Churches and ministries post what they have coming up. Anyone can look, and anyone can show up.
What J217 is not.
It is not a church, and it is not a denomination. Nothing here competes with a congregation or asks anyone to leave one. Every listing sends people toward a local church or ministry, not away from one.
It is not a registered nonprofit. Not yet, and possibly not ever. There is no 501(c)(3) status, no board, and no staff.
It does not handle money. J217 takes no donations, charges no fees, and processes no payments. If a listed activity involves giving, that giving goes directly to the organization hosting it.
It is not a safety inspector. Hosting organizations affirm what is set out in where we stand, and that is the one thing checked. Nothing here is a background check, a safety inspection, or an insurance verification, and no listing is a guarantee about a congregation's leadership or practice. Use your own judgment about where you serve, the same as you would with any invitation.
The things people ask first.
Do we have to be invited?
No. Any church or faith-based organization can post, whatever its size, tradition, or budget, as long as it holds to what is set out in where we stand. There is no application and no approval to become a "partner".
What does it cost?
Nothing. There is no fee to post, no fee to browse, and no plan to add one.
Do I have to be a Christian to show up?
No, and you are genuinely welcome. If you want to help sort food or hang drywall, come and do that. Just know these are churches and ministries. You may well be prayed for, or told plainly why these people give up their Saturdays. That is not a catch, it is the hope.
Who reads the submissions?
A person, by hand, one at a time. That is slower than an automatic feed, and it is the reason the board is worth trusting.
How long until my listing goes up?
Often the same day. It is one person reading them, so it depends on the day, but nothing sits for long. If something is time-sensitive, say so in the notes field.
Can a listing be taken down?
Yes. Email hello@j217.org from the address on the submission and it comes down.
Start with one listing.
A board like this is only as useful as what is on it, and right now it is early. The fastest way to help is to post something your church or ministry already has planned.
